Along my travels, I always try to drink locally. I’ll support the tiny craft breweries and see what the local distilleries may have in the way of whiskey or bourbon. Last year we took a wonderful trip to Ireland and worked our way around the central and southern part of that beautiful country. Just a quick note for anyone who hasn’t been there: the people are as wonderful as the country is gorgeous! I’ve been to Ireland a couple times and can’t wait to return.
So on our last trip, we spent a couple nights in Galway which may just be my favorite city in Ireland. I discovered that there is a unique whiskey, called Galway Hooker, that you can only get on the Galway Whiskey trail. I had brought a bottle home (among many others) and found it to be absolutely amazing!! I’m still savoring it and don’t want to get to the bottom of that bottle. A couple weeks ago I was searching and was thrilled to see that certain bars in Galway would ship this whiskey to the US.
A big THANK YOU to Garavan’s Bar in Galway for shipping me a bottle of the Galway Hooker 8 year. I just received it and am waiting for a good friend or two to open it with me this coming weekend. I’m am quite sure it will be as amazing as the original Galway Hooker whiskey.
If you live in Ireland, I would make it a point to head to the Latin Quarter in Galway and try this whiskey. If there are available bottles online and you can have Garavan’s or another bar there ship you a bottle, I promise you it is well worth it!
Slainte!
