Vacations and Staycations

As you know, I have always loved vacationing with my family. I love the memories they create and sometimes the picture collage on the wall isn’t enough. A few years ago, I (roughly) designed the deck I wanted on the back of the house. With the help of true professionals, they made the image I created in my mind come true.

Something I wanted to do with the deck is to recreate a little of each vacation the best I could so the memories come back time and time again.

The line up of brightly colored Adirondack chairs? Inspired from a beach in Aruba. The colorful walls and ceilings? A memory of the restaurants from the Bahamas. (Mikey isn’t actually drinking the beer…it was just for the photo!) The statue of the little rooster? The streets of Key West, FL.

And every year, Emily and I make our way to our favorite Farm and Garden Center/Nursery and buy an assortment of tropical plants, trees and flowers that just make the deck look and feel more tropical and Caribbean.

I still have some additions to make from other trips, but when we aren’t on vacation….I’m perfectly happy staycationing on the back deck!
