Years ago I had a business trip to Chicago, a city I have always loved. The kids were young and had not traveled by plane yet. I thought it would be a great opportunity for them to see the city and have the family join me at the conclusion of the meeting. Big kudos to Mary on this one as my father dropped her and the kids off at Trenton Airport (they used to fly to Chicago out of that small airport) for an early morning flight. Then she had to navigate O’Hare airport, get on the Blue Line train to inside the Loop, and get two sleepy kids plus luggage to the hotel.
It was a wonderful trip as I remember and we had to get the kids picture in front of the iconic Bean (Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park. (If you read yesterday’s post, I am actually good at remembering to take vacation pictures!)
At the time I didn’t realize that we would consistently return to Chicago for short trips about every 2 years after that. We made it a thing that the kids would pose the same way in front of the Bean each time we returned. I don’t know if we will go back that often anymore as times change, but I love these pictures and how they have grown in each one. Mikey and I took a short trip a few months ago and he sadly had to pose by himself this time without his sister. My hope is one day, as they are older and off on their own, that maybe they bring their families there for a trip and continue posing and getting the same picture. At the very least, I know we have instilled a love of travel and adventure in them and this is where is all began.
