With multiple moving parts in a family heavily involved in sports, spring breaks and school schedules being different having one in college and one in high school, and not being able to find a single week that all of us are free and available…..we have decided on separate trips this coming summer. I will touch on all of them at some point but we’ll start in order.
First trip up will be in June for Mikey and I. We will be doing a father/son trip to the always popular golf destination of Anchorage, Alaska! (that golf part was a joke…but the trip isn’t).
So why Alaska? I’m always looking for something a bit different to experience and to share with the kids. Mikey and I really enjoy golfing together (him probably more now than ever since he often beats me) and the experience of playing golf at midnight just sounds like fun. We will be going to experience the Downtown Anchorage Summer Solstice party where there are 22 hours of sunlight and it’s basically always bright enough outside to do anything. So a few rounds of golf around Anchorage, some river fishing for some Salmon and whatever else we can catch, and what I imagine will be some amazing scenery along the way.
This will be my first trip to Alaska….has anyone ever been or experienced Summer Solstice there? Any other suggestions for activities? I’m certainly going to force him to hike at least once (hiking is definitely more of an Emily and I thing) but I want to hike something there just because. Obviously the beer scene….49th State Brewing is close to where we are staying and I’ll definitely being grabbing some Anchorage Brewing Co. beers to enjoy both at our VRBO and for the stashing some home. Happy to hear your thoughts on anything else in the area as we will have a rental car and transportation in, out, and around Anchorage.
