Back on theme this week with “Family Wednesday”. We are all proud of our children, that is a given. This has been a pretty special week for both of mine as they are experiencing something neither has before now. Emily is currently in Limerick, Ireland as part of a University/Spring Break trip with some advisors and fellow students. This is the first time she has traveled out of country without the family and not only is she doing well, but she is having the time of her life! As a parent, some find it tough letting go (cutting the cord, as the phrase goes). I feel like I’m doing half a decent job as a parent if my child is able to be worldly and capable of doing things on their own, especially at 18. I understand that this is normal for many people throughout the world and in different countries, but here in the US, check out this data: According to recent data, the average age of children still living at home is around 24-27 years old, with many studies indicating that roughly a third of young adults between 18 and 34 are still residing with their parents. Hell NO! Maybe it’s my old way of thinking, but I believe children today are slow to mature and feel entitled. I’m very proud of Emily for all her accomplishments and that she is pursuing a path to employment and being her own after she graduates.
For fun, I asked her to recreate the picture of her standing along the River Shannon in Limerick from a couple summers ago. You can see them below. The weather now, as you can see, is a bit more drab and grey.
As for Mikey, this past weekend he experienced something he hasn’t before during his years of playing hockey…..a Championship! Proud of him and all his terrific teammates for this accomplishment and for moving onto District playoffs this weekend. Good Luck Tigers!!
