Err on the side of caution….

If you err on the side of caution, for example, you decide to act in a cautious way, rather than take risks.

So this is the way our week continues to go here in our house. Monday was the dog attack. Yesterday was a cautionary trip to the hospital for Mikey. Mikey spent most of Monday home from school looking like a college freshman who attended his first frat party and didn’t understand what that 8th shot of bottom shelf tequila would do to you. Not pretty. Though he was feeling somewhat better yesterday, we needed to have him seen (mostly for the Dr. note to excuse him from school more than anything) and because he was still having some stomach pain. I was pretty sure his stomach was just sore from Monday’s full day of regurgitation but the Doctor decided we needed to rule out an appendicitis.

Since Deke and I just experienced our emergency room visit on Monday, Mary was kind enough to bring him to the hospital after Mikey and I returned from the Pediatrician office.

Did I really think Mikey had an appendicitis? No. If on the off chance he did and his appendix burst in the middle of the night because I just brushed this off, would I be the worst parent in the world? I would certainly have felt like one. So we did what most parents do when you’re taking care of your kids….you just err on the side of caution. I mean what’s another couple co-pays for piece of mind? (I actually don’t know yet…I can tell you when I get the bill)

End result: Ultrasound came back clear. No appendicitis….and Mary joked that he also wasn’t pregnant! haha.

So Mikey is feeling mostly better this morning and is heading back to school. Deke is on the mend and doing amazingly well considering it’s barely been 24 hours since his incident.

As for me….I can’t wait to see what Wednesday brings…..

Mikey in the hospital face-timing his sister…and Deke resting at my feet doing office work this morning.
