What better topic for Family Wednesday than to touch on our actual DNA. I think there are probably more people than not that have had their DNA analyzed by one of the many companies that perform this service.
Several years ago, my parents gave my brother and I the Ancestry.com kit as a gift for the holidays. DNA did prove that I wasn’t adopted like my brother told me for years!
So what is my breakdown:
- 50%Southern Italy & the Eastern Mediterranean
- 40%Germanic Europe
- 4%Ireland
- 3%France
- 2%Central & Eastern Europe
- 1%Sardinia
The Italian side is from my father. The rest of the mix is obviously my mother.
So then Emily had her DNA done a year or so ago. Funny enough, she didn’t get much of the Germanic Europe DNA from me but really took on the Italian DNA. And then picked up mostly Irish DNA from my wife. She is basically 70% Italian/Irish. We haven’t had Mikey do his yet…I’d be curious to see his mix.
Does any of this matter? Not particularly…it’s just interesting.
Anyone have any good “DNA surprise” stories?? Like: I had a sibling I didn’t know about….or holy crap, I fathered a child?!!! Post a comment.
