Alaskan Beers

So now I get to combine a Booze Tuesday post with the Alaskan vacation. Luckily, Alaska does not have a shortage of breweries or quality beer. While there, I did my best to have a selection of the different ones from different places.

To start, I had a flight from 49th State Brewing company. Solid beers without a doubt but the top one in my opinion was the 907 Pale Ale. While beer advocate only rates this one an 82, I think it was far better than that for the style. The other very good one was their Solstice IPA. That’s what I’m drinking here while Mikey enjoys some Wild Scoops Ice Cream (which one of their locations is in the 49th State Brewery Beer Garden…how convenient!)

One of the staples on the trip for a solid, drinkable IPA was the Denali Brewing Company Twister Creek IPA. I had a 6 pack of this in the fridge for post golf and they were available all over the place. This one I’m drinking after Mikey and I hiked Portage Glacier and then stayed in Whittier, AK for a lunch at Varly’s Swiftwater Seafood Cafe. (https://www.swiftwaterseafoodcafe.com/). The views from this little place were unbeatable and it was the freshest fish sandwich I’d ever had in my life. If you find yourself in Whittier, AK…go there!

The best beers of the trip were definitely from Anchorage Brewing Company. (https://anchoragebrewing.company/) At the brewery, I had a GallyBagger IPA….Mikey had a root beer. (even though kids can drive at 15 in Alaska in certain areas, the drinking age is still 21). This was the best beer and I managed to get some in my luggage home along with their Double IPA named DEAD? and a bottle of one of their sours. The Brewery is very unassuming from the outside as it sits in an industrial park area. But the inside has great character! Because I had to be a responsible adult, I only had the one beer at the brewery….though I would have enjoyed running through a sample of everything they had. The picture is the GallyBagger and I finally enjoyed DEAD? once I got home…and it was also delicious!

Thank you Alaska for a great trip with many great new beers!
