Tomorrow, Oct. 2nd, is Deke’s 5th birthday. I couldn’t imagine life without him…
About 5 years ago, I was in contact with a breeder of Goldendoodles and was heading to their house to choose a puppy that I’d be taking home a week or so later as a surprise for the kids. The breeder had a couple puppies left to choose from that day. As I arrived, she let a female Goldendoodle out in the yard to greet me. She was apricot colored and had tons of puppy energy…just adorable. I mean it’s a Goldendoodle puppy….what’s not to love? Then she told me she actually had a male puppy she didn’t think she would have but asked if I was interested in a male dog. The sex of the dog didn’t matter to me so I said “sure”, I would love to meet him.
I don’t know if he had just woken up from a nap, was shy meeting new people, or what it was. But he walked right up to me and leaned against my leg. The breeder said “go ahead and pick him up if you’d like”. I picked him up and he immediately nuzzled his head under my chin and cuddled into me. GAME OVER. This puppy had just picked me. And the rest is history….
Deke is the most lovable dog I think I have ever encountered. And incredibly loyal. He pretty much never leaves my side…a true velcro dog but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s been a wonderful 5 years with Deke and I hope I get many, many more with my best friend.
