You’re doing what??

So Emily has decided to go off on her first solo hiking expedition in the very near future. It’s something she has wanted to experience and I’m all for it. It was something met with a few “She’s doing what?” or “Are you sure she should do this?” questions. Even Mary is a little leery but I believe that’s the mother in her that will worry about her doing this stuff even if she was a 40 year old.

It’s not a concern, but safety is the top priority, and I know she is a responsible young lady. I helped her find a hotel (most hotels require a minimum check in age of 21 but some are over 18), got her a new pair of hiking boots for her birthday along with a survival knife (typical fatherly gifts to a 19 year old daughter), and helping make sure she is prepared for everything. And we will obviously be in constant contact with her during this trip as well.

There are many informative sites on safety for the solo female hiker. Here is one: https://explorerchick.com/journal/women-safely-hiking-alone-tips/

I’m confident this will end up being an amazing journey for her and I can’t wait to hear about it once complete.

I’m sure she will eventually be posting on her Instagram hiking account: em_goes_hiking
