What a great mid week topic! I’m 100% positive we have all experienced this within our professional lives at one point or another. Let me give you a current example.
My car broke this weekend. Don’t feel bad…it’s a company vehicle and I couldn’t care less. However, the convenience of having a company car available for personal use is quite nice and I miss having it.
Here’s the situation: car breaks over weekend (Serpentine belt snaps, car completely undriveable). Call the Company Fleet Department Monday morning. They have a tow truck here within 30 minutes and tow to repair shop around corner (the shop they choose, not the dealership). Car sits most of Monday (not repair shop problem, didn’t have appointment so can’t expect them to drop everything for me). They call me Monday late afternoon and suggest car may be under warranty and can be fixed at Dealership. (We then have a fun conversation on how neither of us understand the complexities/stupidities of a fleet department).
Tuesday rolls around. Repair shop calls me again. They can fix it, the belt is in stock and can have car back to me but Fleet Department and my actual company driver program person can’t decide what to do. Car sits all day…no work done.
This morning: I call the Fleet department again. They inform me that the repair shop has submitted all their paperwork and can fix the car. The Fleet department acknowledges this and says they see the order. Then they tell me that all this information is sitting on the desk at my company driver program/car person, etc…(basically someone that nobody knows exists or does this job) and has been awaiting on their decision since yesterday afternoon. I assume I’ll have my car back somewhere between tomorrow and December of 2027. All it takes is one idiot to hold up the entire process….hence….professional incompetence.

I’m apparently dealing with a tree climbing fish…..
