They’re family

My Instagram feed is pretty basic….sports and dogs. It’s what I search and enjoy scrolling through. Lately the dog posts I’ve been seeing are mixing in a lot of “shelter dogs” and awareness on some of these poor pups that have been mistreated or abandoned. I will say there are many kind and loving people out there that have gone through extraordinary lengths to adopt these dogs in need. (I guess some social media is worthwhile!!)

The joke in my house is that I want to move somewhere with tons of land so I can have dozens of dogs with room to run. It’s not really a joke….it’s how I picture a wonderful retirement. For the time being, I’ll continue to focus on Deke and Delaney and giving them the best life I can provide them. They are here for too short a time to give them anything less.

One day, when I have any free time whatsoever, I would love to volunteer at a local shelter. If you love dogs and can’t own dozens, at least you can get your fix at a local shelter by helping walk some dogs, or play with them, or whatever they need. I’m sure both the dogs and you will benefit from the experience.

I found a simple Google search of “how to volunteer at an animal shelter” will provide you with the shelters that accept volunteers and the potential process to do so.

Also, if you live in an area with a local ASPCA and want to make it a full time gig, you can check them out here: https://careers.aspca.org/

For the majority of us that own pets, we understand they aren’t just pets…..They’re family!
