This is the first year where the family dynamic at home has changed because of Emily being off to college. Those 18 years went by in a blink. I’m sure this is not an uncommon thought for those parents who also watched their children grow and ultimately leave the house.
On the walls leading down the steps to our basement, we have the picture wall. Each kid gets their own side. It starts at the top with the Kindergarten photo, goes down the steps to about 5th or 6th grade, and then finishes with the high school graduation photo back by the door. Kinda funny how it’s full circle….in the door, out the door.
I can’t remember everything that happened during the past 18 years…that would be impossible. I have wonderful memories though of many moments during that time. One of the things (and maybe it’s a guy thing or maybe it’s just me) is that I just like to be in the moment and I don’t pull out my phone as often as I should to take a picture of those moments. We all hassle Mary because she always says to us “make sure you get a picture” for pretty much everything that happens. And we’ll probably always hassle her for this, but we should also listen to that advice more so we can relieve those moments when our memory may not be so good. So basically….Thank you for hassling us and making us take more pictures. Guys…this is definitely one of those times you should listen more to your wife. Enjoy the memories!!
