As promised, here are some pictures and information from our trip to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. There are many trails and a nice visitor center with a couple parking lots, restrooms, gift shop, etc.

We hiked a couple days there while on this trip. They first hike was shorter but very rewarding with some amazing natural features. The trail was called Devil’s Hall. The small challenges on this hike were some minor rock scrambling over about a mile of rock wash. Also, as you can see, there was a cool rock feature to climb. Watch your step! (especially on the way down).

As you can see, it didn’t take us that long to complete this trail but 100% worth it!
The following day we got up early-ish and headed back to the park to tackle Guadalupe Peak. We didn’t know what to expect as it’s listed as a strenuous hike that takes an average of 6-8 hours to complete. Emily and I hike quite a bit and have done several mountains, glaciers, and even a volcano. We saw the distance and elevation and knew it wasn’t going to be an issue but still was curious about what made it so difficult. I think the answer is: weather conditions. They day we hiked we had perfect temps in mid 30-40s F. The trail was dry. Winds which could possibly be gusting upwards of 80mph were basically still. We got lucky and it helped make this hike seem less than what we thought regarding difficulty. And I’m glad it was perfect because it allowed us time to relax and take great pictures and even sit and enjoy a snack at the peak for 20-30 minutes. Enjoy the pictures of the highest point in TX. (and for the record, bc of the perfect conditions, we completed this in under 5 hours of moving time and under 6 hours with all the stopping for pictures and snacks).
